Data ethics in the stories we tell
Telling a story is the core of building an organization’s message, but storytelling with data can often be elusive. Data is one of the most powerful, yet underutilized, tools in our arsenal and it can support the process of storytelling in creative and innovative ways. In our work, we have heard many hesitations about the use of data in storytelling and often those concerns are legitimate but can be overcome.
Data ethics is one of the most prevalent hesitations in data storytelling. Most individuals are unaware of how to manage privacy concerns, struggle to navigate the ever-present issue of avoiding bias, or have fears of misinterpretation. The ParsonsTKO Data Innovation Studio wants to help you strengthen your narrative and provide diverse perspectives through responsible use of data in getting your message out to your audience.
Watch this virtual panel discussion with experts from various organizations as we discuss ethical data storytelling and what it means for your team’s mission.

Arabella DeLucco
Founder & CEO, WeXL
Arabella is the founder and CEO of WeXL. Growing up in New Jersey as a brown immigrant girl from the Philippines, she ambitiously longed for a sense of belonging. Arabella remembers the time in her childhood, sitting all alone at recess. There, she vowed to learn English as best she could. She went on to graduate from Rutgers University with a double major in political science and English.
Arabella’s career path meandered from print journalist to event producer to tech marketer. She has also lived all over the country. It was well into adulthood when she realized that she is and will always be a storyteller. Arabella loves the process of gathering, synthesizing, and sharing stories. A few years ago, she found the artist within her after taking filmmaking and oil painting classes at City College of San Francisco. It was a pivotal moment in her life where Arabella discovered how making art makes her a better businesswoman and a better person. She currently lives in San Francisco with her awesome buddy of a husband, Michael.
